The Sounds of Summer – Music of the Long Island Maritime Museum’s 18th Annual Seafood, Craft and Music Festival August 29th & 30th, 2009

West Sayville, NY (August 19, 2009) The Long Island Maritime Museum’s Annual Seafood Festival, to be held this year on Saturday, August 29 and Sunday, August 30, 2009 is one of the summer’s hottest events. Last year, over 18,000 people came through the gates of the festival, which combines arts and crafts, education and live entertainment with some of the Island’s best seafood. It is held at the Museum’s waterfront park adjacent to the West Sayville Golf Course at the foot of West Avenue in West Sayville.
Music has become a major focal point of this festival and this year is no exception. There will be an eclectic mix of music, sure to appeal to a broad audience. The festival is proud to announce our best music line up yet.
Saturday’s Main Stage line up, hosted by 94.3 WMJC (Phathead and Malibu Sue), will feature music from:
Verical Horizon – Matt Scannell - the band shot to fame in the late 90s with hits such as, “You’re a God” and “Everything You Want”. Now touring in support of their new album, “Burning the Days.”Kevin Griffin from Better than Ezra - best known for songs such as “Good” and “King of New Orleans”. Touring and supporting their new release, “Paper Empire” on MRI/Megaforce Records.Antigone Rising- Long Island native’s and national touring rock band who have shared the stage with The Rolling Stones, Joan Jett and Aerosmith to name a few.Chris Barron & The Time Bandits –the lead singer of the Spin Doctors newest project.Donna Jean Godchaux Band – with Jeff Mattson. Donna Jean Godchaux was a vocalist with the Grateful Dead and Jerry Garcia Band.Ryan Star – a Long Island native who has made a name from himself by touring extensively, most recently with American Idol winner David Cook and now Collective Soul in support of his upcoming album, “11:59”.John Hampson – lead singer of famous Long Island based band Nine Days and now a solo artist in his own right.
Sunday’s Main Stage line up, hosted by 102.3 WBAB (Fingers) and 106.1 WBLI, will feature music from:
Movin’ Out Band – featuring members of Billy Joe’s band: Tommy Byrnes, Mark Rivera, Chuck Burgi, Andy Cinchon and Wade Preston, the original Piano Man from the Broadway show, Movin’ Out. The Funk Filharmonik – a legendary twelve piece super group from our Tri-State Area. Randy Jackson of Zebra- lead singer of the legendary power trio from Long Island.Four on the Floor –an all-star tribute to Freddy Frogs with members of Rockats, Radio 4, Billy Joel’s band and more. Holly Brook – an up and coming singer/songwriter who famously sings the hook on the Fort Minor song, “Where’d You Go”; as well as having most recently worked with Duncan Sheik. Our Sea Shanty stage will host music on both Saturday & Sunday from:Inishowen Music – a four piece maritime music group from the headwaters of the Chesapeake Bay. Geoff Kaufman – solo folk and maritime music singer from Mystic Seaport, Connecticut.Them East Port Oyster Boys – duo who provide fun entertainment and offer a unique way to "tour" their hometown Historic Annapolis and the Chesapeake Bay region through their songs.
Bring your family and friends, (no pets will be allowed) this year’s event promises to be full of fun and excitement for all. Gates will open at 10:00 am and close at 6:00 pm. The food vendors will remain open until 6:00 pm and the music will continue until 7:00 pm both days. Visitors to the Festival will be able to take advantage of the new expanded off-site parking and the shuttle service from several locations. On-line advanced ticket sales will be available on the Long Island Maritime Museum website www.limaritime.org. Admission to the Festival is $5.00, which goes directly to support the Museum’s operations. Children 5 and under are free. The Seafood Festival is the largest single fundraising event for the Long Island Maritime Museum in West Sayville. The Museum is dedicated to the preservation of Long Island’s rich maritime history and heritage for educational purposes.
